<p>A first device outputs information defining a session key in accordance with a pairing protocol supported by a second device, the information being in the form of an audio or visual signal. The second device directly detects the signal, or receives the information in the form of user input. The information may comprise a shared secret and may be displayed as a Quick Response (QR) code (fig. 4). The second device scans the QR code to obtain the shared secret and derive the session key. The session key may be derived using a Password Authenticated Key Exchange (PAKE) algorithm. The first device may identify a pairing protocol (audio or visual) supported by the second device. The second device may receive information from the first device identifying pairing protocols and respond with a selected protocol. A Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) discovery may be performed to request a description file, the description file including metadata indicating pairing protocols supported by a device.</p> |
