The wheelchair (1) has two rear wheels (4) arranged on left and right sides of a frame (2). An adjusting device allows adjustment of a wheel base by a user lying in the wheelchair. A sliding motion unit (11) is arranged between the frame and the rear wheels to allow translation of the rear wheels along the frame. A hand actuating unit (12) connects the frame to the rear wheels and is easily accessible by the user of the wheelchair to allow passage of the rear wheels from a retracted position to a forward position and vice-versa when the wheelchair rests against the rear wheels and casters (5).
