PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To intuitively control a UI screen provided in each mode of a display device that can operate in plural operation modes.SOLUTION: A remote control device 200 for providing a remote control signal to an external display device having plural operation modes, includes: a signal output unit 230 for outputting a remote control signal to the external display device providing a UI screen; a detection unit 210 for detecting operation of the remote control device; an input unit 220 including a first button unit used to receive a user instruction for selecting one of a pointing mode and a gesture mode in the operation modes of the external display device and a second button unit used to receive a user instruction for selecting an object displayed on the UI screen; and a control unit 240 for selecting and controlling one of the pointing mode and the gesture mode when the user instruction is input through the first button unit.
