A method and an apparatus for compensating a dark line of a flat panel display are provided to modulate digital video data by using a proper compensation value pattern. An apparatus for compensating a dark line includes a flat display panel(103), a memory, a compensator(105), and drivers(101,102). The memory stores symmetrical compensation values. The compensator receives digital video data and modulates some of the digital video data into the compensation values. The drivers display the modulated digital video data on the flat display panel. The flat display panel is at least one of an LCD(Liquid Crystal Display), an FED(Field Emission Display), a PDP(Plasma Display Panel), and an OLED(Organic Light Emitting Device). The compensator temporally or spatially distributes the compensation value according to a frame rate control scheme. The distributed compensation value is added to the digital video data. |
