The transducer (10) has a revolution counter for storing a number of completely run through 360 degree rotations of an encoder shaft (18). A history storage unit stores a history of quadrant values. An evaluation unit (15) is exclusively operated to determine the number of completely run through 360 degree rotations of the shaft with energy. The evaluation unit derives one of the quadrant values from a provided signal value, and provides a corresponding quadrant value to a history buffer when a resetting pulse is carried-out. The pulse sensor is designed as a Wiegand sensor (RTM: passive magnetic sensitivity device). An independent claim is also included for a method for determining a unique position of a transmitter shaft.
