PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress such a phenomenon that a toner image once transferred into an intermediate transfer body in an upstream side is re-transferred onto an image carrier in a downstream side, in an image forming apparatus that primarily transfers toner images formed on the respective image carriers onto an intermediate transfer body to be sequentially overlapped with one another.SOLUTION: An intermediate transfer belt 8 is conductive, and by applying a voltage to the belt from a voltage power supply 33 to produce a constant potential over the whole circumference, toner images are primarily transferred onto the intermediate transfer belt 8 from the respective photosensitive drums 2 at the respective primary transfer parts. When forming images, at an upstream position in a rotation direction of the intermediate transfer belt 8 than the primary transfer part between the photoreceptor drum 2 and the intermediate transfer belt 8 in at least one image forming section that is one of image forming sections except for the image forming section disposed in the most upstream side in the rotation direction of the intermediate transfer belt 8, in a plurality of image forming sections 1, a discharge is induced between the photoreceptor drum 2 and the intermediate transfer belt 8, which reduces a potential difference between the photoreceptor drum 2 and the intermediate transfer belt 8 in the primary transfer part than a Paschen's discharge threshold. |
