The system (1) has a fuel cell (3) comprising an anode region (4) and a cathode region (5). A supply line (10) is utilized for an air flow to the cathode region, and a vent pipe (13) is utilized for an air flow from the cathode region. An air conveying device (6) i.e. flow compressor, is arranged in the supply line. A pulsation device (21) is arranged in a region of the air flow to and/or from the cathode region. The pulsation device pulsatingly changes pressure, velocity and/or volume flow of the air flow. The pulsation device comprises a movable locking element i.e. detour element. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a fuel cell system.
