601691 Disclosed is a direct drive wind turbine. The direct drive wind turbine uses a hydraulic and/or pneumatic pitch system (30) to control the pitch of the blades (10) in response to varying weather conditions. The direct drive wind turbine utilises a transport system (20) between a nacelle (5) and a hub (7) of the wind turbine to transport hydraulic fluid to the hydraulic and/or pneumatic pitch system (30) without causing damage due to torsion. The wind turbine comprises a nacelle (5); a rotor (8); an interface region and a transport system (20). The rotor (8) comprises a number of blades (10) and a hub (7). The nacelle (5) and hub (7) are connected to each other at the interface region. The transport system (20) transports a hydraulic and/or pneumatic fluid from the nacelle (5) into the hub (7). The transport system (20) further comprises a rotary unit (13) located in the hub (7). The rotary unit (13) functions as a connection through which the fluid passes. A part of the rotary unit (13) rotates in operation together with the hub (7). The rotary unit (13) is directly connected to a hydraulic and/or pneumatic pitch system (30) in the hub (7). |
