PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal transfer printer capable of easily separating an ink ribbon and transfer paper in a simple structure.SOLUTION: A thermal transfer printer performs printing by arranging a heating element of a thermal head 2 so as to face a platen 4 and by sandwiching an ink ribbon and a body to be transferred between the thermal head 2 and the platen 4. The printer includes a moving means for making the thermal head 2 come closer to or go away from the platen 4, and a separating mechanism section for moving the ink ribbon following the movement of the thermal head 2 and separating the body to be transferred and the ink ribbon.
