A method for treating the chronic hepatitis C in the setting of hepatosteatosis provides for the use of Metformin at a dose of 20 mg/kg at least in 3-6 months preceding antiviral therapy and throughout the course of antiviral therapy. In 10-15 days after the beginning of the therapy, the dose of Metformin is adjusted with 500 mg increments once a week.
