PURPOSE: A complementary type fingerprint recognition device is provided to perform user fingerprint authentication through a live skin authentication sensor when an optical sensor fails in fingerprint recognition. CONSTITUTION: A memory(210) stores inside skin fingerprint data for a plurality of users and outside skin fingerprint data for users capable of recognition. An optical sensor(220) receives and recognizes an outside skin fingerprint of a user capable of attempting fingerprint recognition. The optical sensor generates an outside skin fingerprint recognition success signal and an outside skin fingerprint image when skin fingerprint recognition succeeds. The optical sensor generates an outside skin fingerprint recognition failure signal. A live skin authentication sensor(230) generates an inside skin fingerprint image by recognizing an inside skin fingerprint of the user. A display unit(240) displays a message of using the live skin authentication sensor when the outside skin fingerprint recognition fails. A control unit(250) authenticates the user by comparing the outside skin fingerprint image with the outside skin fingerprint data.
