Process for reducing the height of a box (1) down to the level of the apex of the stack of objects that it contains, comprising the following steps: - a horizontal score line is made in the side walls of the box at a distance from the bottom of said box; - two oblique score lines forming an angle of 45° with the horizontal plane are made in the upper part of the two side walls (1a and 1c) parallel to the length of the box; - the upper part of the two side walls parallel to the length and to the width of the box is folded, simultaneously, toward the centre of said box, about horizontal score lines, by 90°, and the various sections that make up the upper part of the side walls parallel to the length of the box are folded simultaneously, one over the other, about said oblique score lines, by 180°; characterized in that the horizontal score lines are made at a height substantially equal to that of the apex of said stack of objects and such that the distance between said apex and the top of the box is greater than the half-width of said box, and in that, during the phase of simultaneous folding of the upper parts of the two side walls parallel to the length of said box toward the centre thereof, and before the upper edges or ridges of said upper parts meet, the angles of inclination of said upper parts are differentiated with respect to one another so that, when said upper parts meet, the upper edge of one of said upper parts covers the upper edge of the other upper part, said upper parts sliding over one another during the final phase of folding the latter. |
