PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare a desulfurizing agent which does not contain fluorine, includes a used refractory, and can effectively use a used refractory as a refining agent in the desulfurization treatment of molten iron.SOLUTION: A refractory containing MgO is prepared. The refractory is ground so that the particle size may be 3 mm or less to obtain a particulate refractory. A solid, particulate CaO desulfurizing agent (CaO) is prepared. A solid, particulate AlOsource and MgO source are optionally suitably prepared. The desulfurizing agent is obtained by mixing a prepared particulate refractory and CaO desulfurizing agent and an optionally prepared AlOsource and MgO source so that the refractory content is 5 mass% or more and 9 mass% or less; the MgO content is 2 mass% or more and 9 mass% or less; the AlOcontent is 21 mass% or less; the CaO content is 70 mass% or more and 98 mass% or less. |
