This invention achieves a method for producing a stator able to minimize coil damage without complicating the configuration of a coil insertion device. A method for producing a stator which produces the stator using a coil insertion device provided with a coil holder, a position regulator, and a coil extruder, by winding a coil having a spiral shaped coil end around a stator core. The position regulator has a plurality of radially protruding teeth, formed so that each extends inside through a slot opening. The method for producing a stator has a first coil winding step (P20) for inserting a plurality of annular conductors composing the first coil section into the slot, and a second coil winding step (P40) for inserting a plurality of annular conductors composing the second coil section into the slot, while moving the position regulator in the axial direction and radially pressing the portion of the first coil section disposed in the slot with the radial end surface of the protruding teeth.
