<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drum type washing machine that allows a user to easily pick up laundry and achieves an operation excellent in energy-saving properties. <P>SOLUTION: The drum type washing machine includes: cloth quality detection means 11b for detecting a cloth quality of laundry according to a speed at which water accumulated in a water tub 3 enters an inner surface side of a washing tub 4 and is absorbed into laundry; and control means 11a to which an output of the cloth quality detection means 11b is input, for successively controlling the respective processes of washing, rinsing and dewatering. The control means 11a performs an agitation operation corresponding to the cloth quality detected by the cloth quality detection means 11b after the completion of a final dewatering operation in the dewatering process.
