OPTICAL FILM, LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE, TRANSFERRING MATERIAL, AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING OPTICAL FILM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin optical film, which shows a high optical compensatory function and can be stably manufactured even in continuous production.

SOLUTION: The optical film comprises an optically anisotropic layer 14 comprising a discotic liquid crystal fixed into a hybrid alignment, an adhesion layer 12 having no aligning controllability, and a substrate 10, in this order. The hybrid alignment is conditioned in such a manner that an angle defined by a director of the discotic liquid crystal in a region close to an interface with air and the normal to the film is larger than an angle defined by a director of the discotic liquid crystal in the vicinity of an interface with the adhesion layer and the normal to the film. The total thickness of the film is 0.1 μm to 70 μm.
