<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a footstool of which location position can be easily visually recognized even at night when needed. <P>SOLUTION: A footstool 1 includes a tread 2 provided with a tread surface 4, legs 3 for supporting the tread 2, translucent bodies 11 mounted on the tread surface 4, a tread surface light source adjacent to the translucent body 11 and embedded in the tread, and a human sensor 18 for detecting a moving object. The human sensor 18 is configured so that the moving object is detected and thereby the tread surface light source emits light. The human sensor does not operate in the environment of a prescribed illuminance or more. The translucent bodies 11 are configured so as to receive light from the tread surface light source and emit this light upward. Preferably, the translucent bodies 11 are positioned on the tread surface 4 and extend along left and right edges (2c, 2d) of the tread 2, respectively.
