<PICT:1026791/C1/1> Solutes are partitioned between two immiscible or partially-immiscible solvents flowing into countercurrent by a batch process with total reflux of the solutes until equilibrium is achieved. Rare earth salts such as nitrates may be separated using tributyl phosphate and water. As shown in Fig. 1, tributyl phosphate designated S2 flows in a closed circuit through a separating stage 1 made up of mixer-settlers and a scrubber 2, countercurrent to an aqueous phase S1 which after scrubbing in 2 passes through an evaporator 3 before entering separator 1; the aqueous effluent from 1 passes to a concentrator 4 from which the solute at least is recycled to the end of the separator.ALSO:Two or more solutes are separated by means of partition between two countercurrently contacted immiscible or partially miscible solvents in which a total reflux condition is achieved by returning all solutes to the end of the apparatus from which they came until equilibrium is achieved and then the process is stopped and the fractions removed.
|
