<p>The ground-engageable surface 1 comprises several of structural elements 12 arranged a series of partially overlapping rows 26-46. The structural elements of one row 26 are connected to structural elements of an adjacent row 28 such that each row is pivotable about its connection. The pivotable connection is provided by means of an elongate cylindrical rod 29 which extends through aligned bores 14, 18 in the structural elements. The surface may be stored in a rolled-up configuration for ease of deployment over soft or unstable ground. The resilient nature of the surface helps to maintain contact with the underlying terrain and spread applied loads evenly. The cylindrical rod may be made out of resilient material such as nylon 6 or nylon 6-6. The elements may be made from co-polymer resilient material such as rubber.</p> |
