Provided is a device for detecting a light of another vehicle from an image captured of the exterior of the original vehicle, the device being mounted on a vehicle. This device acquires an image captured of the vehicle surroundings and extracts light sources in the image. In a target area representing a previously set position which at least part of an area representing each light source, a target area accuracy representing the accuracy of the light source in the target area being a light from another car is calculated according to the accuracy with which a light source characteristic amount including light source color and/or light source shape matches a target area characteristic amount. A target area characteristic amount is prepared so as to correspond to the position of the target area as a characteristic amount of the vehicle light. A light source for which the target area accuracy is greater than or equal to a previously set threshold value outputs a result that it is the light of another vehicle.
