PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem wherein it is conventionally impossible for a user to recognize the number of times of scanning of a receiver when the user specifies a specific region.

SOLUTION: The subject information acquisition apparatus is configured to receive an acoustic wave from a subject and acquire characteristic information of the subject. The subject information acquisition apparatus includes: the receiver for receiving the acoustic wave and converting the acoustic wave into an electric signal; a scanning control part for scanning the receiver in at least one direction; and a display control part for generating guide information for displaying a guide on the number of times of scanning of the receiver in a first direction in a display part by using information on the specified region for acquiring the characteristic information specified by the user.
