A washing machine (100), comprising: a rotating drum (4); a water tank (3); a water supply unit that supplies water to inside the water tank (3); a water level detection unit (10) that detects the water level of the washing water inside the water tank (3); and a circulation pump (20) having a variable rotation speed. The washing machine (100) also comprises: a water circulation system (16) that circulates the washing water that is inside the water tank (3), to inside the rotating drum (4) by using the circulation pump (20); and a control unit (22) that controls the rotation speed of the circulation pump (20). In a rinsing step, the control unit (22) drives (S3) the circulation pump (20) at a first rotation speed, prior detection of the water level (S4) by the water level detection unit (10), then, after water supply (S5) by the water supply unit has commenced, the water level detection unit (10) detects (S6) when the water level of the washing water has reached at least at a prescribed water level, and then drives (S7) the circulation pump (20) at a second rotation speed that is faster than the first rotation speed.
