Shell moulds are supported during the casting operation by backing them with similar contoured green sand moulds. A first half green sand mould has positioned in close contoured relationship a first half shell mould of complementary contours to which is matched the second half of the shell mould in the usual way. Sand from a hopper then forms the other supporting green sand mould and the sequence is repeated continuously. Friction holds the mould assembly together at the pouring station. |
