<p>A cutting machine combines a first laser beam at a first wavelength in a range between 1020 and 1090 nm and generated by an Yb-based fiber laser system to cut a metal sheet, and a second laser beam at a second wavelength in a 2 µm range generated by a Tm fiber laser for cutting a protective plastic film on the metal sheet. The first and second laser beams are guided by respective output fibers to a beam combiner operable to combine the laser beams into a single processing beam. The beam combiner is preferably located in a laser head. Combining the different wavelengths from Yb and Tm fiber lasers creates a clean cutting surface finish and improved quality.</p> |
