<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to control sense of distance of sound felt by a listener by using a sound radiated from a loudspeaker. <P>SOLUTION: There are five loudspeakers SC, SL, SR, SBL, and SBR allocated on a floor FF so as to surround a viewer P and a flat loudspeaker SF allocated on a ceiling WU in a room 70. An acoustic characteristic control apparatus 10 executes filter processing of attenuating a peak P<SB POS="POST">RH</SB>of an attenuation target band W<SB POS="POST">RH</SB>of a signal MD<SB POS="POST">C</SB>whose supply destination is the loudspeaker SC in the front of the viewer P of the five loudspeakers SC, SL, SR, SBL, and SBR, and makes a signal MD<SB POS="POST">SF</SB>after the filter processing radiate as a plane wave from the loudspeaker SF.
