PURPOSE: A functional element with a characteristic unit providing safety with respect to rotation, the functional element, and a part assembly composed of the functional element and a sheet metal unit are provided to enable to be completely received in a recess directly adjacent and to improve the safety with respect to the rotation. CONSTITUTION: A functional element(12) with a characteristic unit(32) providing safety with respect to rotation comprises a shaft unit and a head unit(16). The characteristic units are arranged on sheet metal contact surfaces(20,24) of the functional element and comprise a recess(31). The recess comprises an uplift portion(33) which is actually arranged in the center or surrounds the recess.
