According to the present embodiment, a pedestrian is detected from inputted image data, a part in which the detected pedestrian is shown is cut out from the image data, the shape of the pedestrian shown in the cut out partial image data is compared with a learned discriminator group or a template group for pedestrian recognition to thereby classify the shape, and the pedestrian's running out is predicted on the basis of the obtained result of classification.
