[Class 83 (iii)] In a modification of the feed indicator for a drilling, milling or the like machine described in the parent Specification the quill 2, fed by a pinion 5 is connected through a flexible band 7 to a slide 10 which moves in guides in the head 1 and which through a shoulder 10a entrains the sliding carrier 12 of the dial indicator 14 only in the direction of withdrawal of the slide from the table 16 adapted to carry the gauging blocks. The flexible strip passes over two idlers 8 and 9 to that the slide 10 moves in the same direction as the quill. On the downward movement the carrier 12 is stopped as soon as the feeler 15 comes to the end of its range after engaging the table or the gauge blocks thereon, after which the slide can continue to descend without slackening the strip 7. If the direction of motion be not vertical springs or counterweights may be provided for displacing the slide 10 and carrier 12.</p> |
