PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bar coater capable of preventing the generation of a failure on a coating surface by suppressing vibrations of a coating bar, and a bar coating method using this bar coater. SOLUTION: The bar coater for coating a travelling support body 12 with a coating liquid by a coating bar 14 includes a rotation driving source 26 for generating a rotation driving force, a bar driving shaft 30 for transmitting the rotation of the rotation driving source 26 to the coating bar 14, wherein the rotation driving force of the rotation driving source 26 is transmitted to the bar driving shaft 30 through a belt 28.
