PURPOSE: A grain refinement apparatus for metal materials is provided to refine grains through shear, compressive and tensile strain and change the cross sectional area, thereby improving the strength and ductility of the material. CONSTITUTION: A grain refinement apparatus for metal materials comprises a forming die(100) and a plunger(150) which presses a material supplied to the forming die. The forming die comprises an entry channel(110); a shear transformation part(115) which transforms a material(M11) supplied to the entry channel at an intersection angle(φ1a) to the entry channel and refines grains; an extrusion channel(120) which transforms the material passing through the shear transformation part at an extrusion angle(Θ1) and refines grains, where a cross sectional area is reduced by 1/n; a discharge channel(130) which discharges the material transformed through the shear transformation part and the extrusion channel; and an intermediate channel which is formed in parallel to the discharge channel between the shear transformation part and the extrusion channel.
