<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pattern recognition device and a pattern recognition method for improving pattern recognition performance by competitive learning using a mutual subspace method. <P>SOLUTION: A pattern recognition device includes: a dictionary storage section; a recognition section; and a dictionary updating section. The dictionary storage section stores a dictionary for pattern recognition in which the category of an original pattern to be recognized and the subspace of a feature vector space for each category are stored in association with each other. The recognition section specifies the category of the input pattern from a canonical angle made by the subspace of the input pattern and the subspace in the dictionary. The dictionary updating section increases and decreases similarity according to whether or not the mutual categorizes match in the case of pattern recognition, calculates a new subspace so that the subspace in the dictionary is made close to or far from a vector making the canonical angle with the subspace in the dictionary among the vectors of the input subspace, and updates the subspace in the dictionary with the calculated subspace. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
