<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording device that can easily manage the unused amount of a paper roll. <P>SOLUTION: When the paper roll is placed on the recording device, the unused length of the paper roll is acquired on the basis of a history table representing the use history of the paper roll and recorded in the paper roll placed on the recording device. In the history table, identification information for identifying the history paper roll is associated with the unused length of the paper roll.
