<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for cutting plate glass and a cutting device therefor, when plate glass such as a glass substrate is cut by performing at least local heating to a cutting schedule line, which can properly cut the plate glass without causing the complication of a supporting structure, the reduction of productivity or the like. <P>SOLUTION: In the method for cutting plate glass G by performing at least local heating along the cutting schedule line 5 of the plate glass G, in a state where supporting members 2(8) respectively supporting the parts separated from the cutting schedule line 5 of the plate glass G to both the sides from the back face side are separately arranged in such a manner that a space S is formed on the back face side of the cutting schedule line 5.
