A drive for a manure spreader of the kind having a conveyer 11 which traverses the floor of a trailer 10 or truck to feed material to a rotary beater 12, comprises an input shaft 20 connected through a gear box 19 to drive a pair of output shafts 21 (not shown) and 22 which extend in opposite directions from the gear box 19 and drive respectively the conveyer 11 and beater 12 through drive units in casings positioned in line with the side boards of the truck and trailer and having an overall width substantially equal to that tof the sideboards. As shown the shaft 20 is driven from a tractor power shaft and drives through bevel gearing 61, 62 the shaft 21 which drives the beater. The gear 62 has a boss 63 formed with an eccentric 63 into which the end of shaft 22 projects. This shaft carries a ratchet wheel 69 which is engaged by a pawl 68 on a carrier 66 which is rocked by means of the eccentric 63 which contacts a roller 64 on the carrier 66. The shaft 22 is coupled to the conveyer.</p> |
