A pneumatic tyre has continuous circumferential ribs 4-8 on its under sidewalls separated by wedge-shaped circumferential slots 9, so that, on deflation of the tyre, the ribs bear against each other to stiffen the sidewalls and support the load. The ribs may be formed by applying a rubber band to the sidewalls of the uncured tyre, and after vulcanizing the assembly, cutting the band to provide the slots 9. |
