An underfloor lathe for turning the wheel. peripheries of rail-vehicles in situ comprises rolls 4, 5 for supporting and driving the wheels 1, a tracer 17 for engaging the axle 2 or its box 3 and transmitting eccentric movements of the axle by means of a feeler 22 to means 9, 10 for controlling the height of the rolls 4, 5 so that any rise or fall of the axle-centre relative to the lathe-tool is compensated by a corresponding fall or rise respectively, of the rolls. A frame 6 adjustable vertically in guides 8 by hydraulic jacks 9, 10 carries a pair of rolls 4, 5 at each end. In vertical guides in the frame 6 there is a compound slide-rest 12 which is supported from a pedestal 15 by an hydraulic jack 13, 14 so that vertical movements of the frame 6 do not affect the tool. The tracer 17 is mounted in a spherical bearing 20 and is connected by a sheathed cable 21 to a feeler-valve 22 for controlling the supply from a pump 23 to the jacks 9, 10. The slide rest 12 may be controlled electrically by a feeler, and instead of hydraulic control of the frame, this may be controlled electrically. In a modification, Fig. 3, the rolls 24, 25 are carried by slides 26, 27 movable in inclined guides 28, 29 by hydraulic cylinders 30, 31. The slides are interconnected by a bar 33 which influences the feeler 32. |
