A silver electrode for use in silver/zinc accumulators comprises a silver metal core serving a support and terminal wire and a silver oxide layer electrolytically formed from and bonded to the core to form a physically homogeneous body with the core. The oxide layer weighs from 4-80% of the weight of the core. The oxide layer is preferably formed by electrolytic chlorination of the silver, reduction back to metal and subsequent electrolytic oxidation of the metal. |
