The invention relates to catalysts for the oxidation of methanol to formaldehyde that can be used in the production of formalin in chemical, petrochemical and wood-working industry. A catalyst for the oxidation of methanol to formaldehyde comprises catalyst mixture of ferrum molybdate and molybdenum oxide (VI). The catalyst further comprises metal Mo and has general formula Fe(MoO)·1,4MoO/Mo, wherein atomic ratio of Mo/Fe is within the range of 1:1.5-5, and fine metal molybdenum powder is in amount of 1-5 wt.% to Fe(MoO)·1,4MoOA process for the preparation of catalyst for the oxidation of methanol to formaldehyde involves the preparation of catalyst by precipitation from ferrum (III) soluble salt solution, mixing with solution of soluble molybdate such as molybdate of alcali metal and/or ammonium followed by drying at a temperature of 500-600 °C for 4-48 hours. Prior to activation fine metal molybden powder is added to the catalyst prepared in amount of 1-5 wt.% of Fe(MoO)·1,4MoOcatalyst. Use of the invention allows to increase stability of catalytic layer, decrease adiabatic heating magnitude and to increase life durability of catalyst. |
