<p>Curtain applicator (1), for coating a continuous paper-, cardboard- or other fibrous web (2) with at least one liquid-to-pasty coating medium in the form of a single- or multilayer curtain (3), and which essentially falls down under gravity, on the surface of the fibrous web, and obtaining a coating layer (4), comprises functional units containing curtain applicator head, and collecting tray (5) for collecting coating medium, during initiating and terminating of coating. The bottom of the collecting tray exhibits a leveling element against a side of the fibrous web to be coated.
