BLOOD COLLECTION SET WITH VENTING MECHANISM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a self-venting blood collection set with a self-venting mechanism that permits outflow of air so as to eliminate the risk that a medical staff member obtains a delayed index of access of vein or artery and mistakenly estimates that a blood vessel is not properly accessed.

SOLUTION: The blood collection set 10 includes an IV needle assembly 24, one flexible plastic tube 46 extending from the IV needle assembly and a non-patient needle assembly 54. Moreover, the set includes a venting mechanism that permits outflow of the air in circumference environments and blocks outflow of blood or other fluids.
