Winding of metallic strip - to allow spaces for efficient annealing

Process for winding up of strip prior to annealing so that there are spaces between the turns to allow the hot gases to penetrate sufficiently. The edges of the strip are deformed prior to winding in half waves which may be of sinusoidal or other shape and may face both strip surfaces or may all face the same direction. The deformation is achieved using pairs of discs carrying punches situated on either side of the strip. The deformation fix the turns at a constant distance from each other either in one or two tangential directions depending on the type of deformation used.
