The method involves protruding an endless sliding film (18) i.e. biaxial oriented polyester film, toward a mounting direction relative to an endless tape (12). The tape is applied on a machine unit in the mounting direction. Two tubular shaped mounting elements (14, 16) are attached at receiving elements of the machine unit. The sliding film and the tape are moved together in the mounting direction such that the sliding film is in contact with an outer surface of a transport element. The tape is moved in the mounting direction until the tape is arranged in an operating position. An independent claim is also included for an arrangement for assembling an endless tape on a transport element of a machine unit.
