Disclosed is a method and apparatus for distinguishing and separating only specific cells in a cell sample. The cell separation operation in this method inserts a needle-shaped substance on which a substance that selectively binds to a marker substance within cells is immobilized into each cell on a substrate. An operation for pulling out the needle-shaped substance after the marker substance in the cells has bound to the needle-shaped substance via the substance that binds selectively to the marker substance is included, but it is possible to pull up only the cells containing the marker substance because the adhesive force between the needle-shaped substance and the cells when the marker substance is bound is greater than the adhesive force of the cells to the substrate.
