<p>A separator 10 with transverse through flow for separating liquids and particulates from a stream of gas which comprises a holder 16 for holding the parts of the separator. The parts comprise a first part 18 and a second part 19, and the holder contains two or more first parts and at least one second part. The first and second parts both comprise a front deflecting portion 20 and a rear deflecting portion 22 joined by a spacer 24. The or each second part 19 is mounted between the two or more first parts 18 such that the front deflecting portion 20 of the or each second part is behind that of the two or more first parts and the rear deflecting portion of the or each second part is behind at least part of the rear deflecting portions of the two or more first parts. The first and second parts are arranged such that they create at least two sequential swirl chambers (72, 74 Fig 6) on either side of the or each second part between it or them and the two or more first parts. Advantageously the separator is made of steel and may form part of a kitchen extraction hood.</p> |
