PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preparing fluoromethyl 2,2,2-trifluoro-1-(trifluoromethyl)ethyl ether which is based on commercially available starting materials, produces higher yields, and is more economical than prior art methods.SOLUTION: There is provided an improved process for preparing the fluoromethyl 2,2,2-trifluoro-1-(trifluoromethyl)ethyl ether (sevoflurane) by reacting 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoro-2-propanol with formaldehyde and hydrogen fluoride either (A) under distillation conditions or (B) in the presence or with the secondary addition of a solvent selectively extracting the sevoflurane. |
