PROCESS FOR PREPARING DIPEPTIDYL PEPTIDASE IV INHIBITOR AND INTERMEDIATE THEREFOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for production of cyclopropyl-fused pyrrolidine-based inhibitors of dipeptidyl peptidase IV.

SOLUTION: An acid of the structure 1 is subjected to reduce amination by treating the acid with ammonium formate, nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, dithiothreitol and partially purified phenylalanine dehydrogenase/formate dehydrogenase enzyme concentrate (PDH/FDH) and without isolating treating the resulting (αS)-α-amino-3-hydroxytricyclo[3.3.1.13, 7]decane-1-acetic acid with di-tert-butyl dicarbonate.
