PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spectrophotometer that uses an xenon flash lamp and enables collation with past accumulated data, and to provide a method for measuring performance of the spectrophotometer. SOLUTION: Usually, spectroscopic analysis is performed by using a luminous flux 2 from the xenon flash lamp 1, dispersing it to any wavelength with a spectroscope 4 via a concave mirror 3, and detecting the luminous flux passing through a sample 5 with a photodetector 6. When the performance is measured, a low pressure mercury lamp 9 is arranged on the luminous flux 2 between the xenon flash lamp 1 and spectroscope 4, a light shield plate 11 constituting a shutter mechanism is operated to shield or transmit light, and light intensity is detected, thereby measuring "wavelength accuracy" or "resolution" using the bright-line spectrum of the low pressure mercury lamp 9.
