PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of hydrogenating a hydrogen storage material, including LiH and MgB<SB>2</SB>, to hydrogenate and release hydrogen at a lower hydrogen pressure and lower temperature. SOLUTION: A method of hydrogenating a hydrogen storage material includes: a step of preprocessing MgB<SB>2</SB>by a ball mill having high energy density of which acceleration by rotation is equal to or more than 90G; and a step of hydrogenating a mixed material including MgB<SB>2</SB>obtained by the preprocessing and LiH.
