FIELD: metallurgy. ^ SUBSTANCE: multi-layer coating is applied by vacuum-plasma method. First, a lower layer out of nitride or carbonitride of compound of titanium and molybdenum is applied at their ratio, wt %: titanium 95.75-97.0, molybdenum 3.0-4.25. Further, there is applied an intermediate layer out of nitride or carbonitride of compound of titanium, molybdenum and silicon at their ratio, wt %: titanium 96.15-97.35, molybdenum 2.0-3.0, silicon 0.65-0.85 and there is applied an upper layer consisting of nitride or carbonitride of compound of titanium, molybdenum and silicon at their ratio, wt %: titanium 93.65-95.35, molybdenum 4.0-5.5, silicon 0.65-0.85. Three cathodes arranged horizontally in one plane apply layers of coating. The first and second cathodes are made complex out of titanium and molybdenum and are arranged opposite to each other, while the third cathode is made out of alloy of titanium and silicon and is set between the first and second cathodes. The lower layer is applied with the first and second cathodes, the intermediate layer is applied with the first and third cathodes, and the upper layer is applied with the second and the third cathodes. ^ EFFECT: increased operability of cutting tool. ^ 1 tbl |
