PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To acquire a plurality of possible recognition candidates in performing pattern recognition for an object to be recognized. SOLUTION: A pattern recognition device includes an element extraction unit for extracting a string of elements of a minimum unit required for pattern recognition from an image read out from a storage part, and a section output unit for reading all parts in which positions of breaks of parts in each path record of a path table and parts that follow those parts coincide, and sweeping them out as a block.
